What happens if you wager on a horse that scratches?
If a horse scratches, all Win/Place/Show bets placed through the racing border will be refunded. A scratch results in an involuntary refund of the mixture which includes the scratched horse.
What happens if your chosen horse is scratched in a trifecta?
At most tracks, if your selected horse is scratched just before the first leg is run, you are to be refunded. If your stake is still live going into the second or third run and the chosen horse is scratched, you likely receive a comfort payoff provided that your wager wins the other two legs.
