7 Step Guide – How to Play Craps for Beginners

The table which is what confuses most craps beginners is the key to learning how to play craps. The craps table has two identical sides with numbers and bets. Each side is simply to cater to players on either side of the table. In online casino craps there are no players physically around the table but the same table is used. There is a black puck on the table which has the word “OFF” written in white. When this puck is flipped it has the word “ON”.  The significance of this puck is explained below:

how-to-play-craps-nz-guide
  1. All players place an initial bet before the first roll which is the come-out roll
  2. An initial come out roll is thrown by the shooter/croupier.
  3. In the event that the result of the roll is a 7 or 11 all who bet Pass Line win and any who bet 2, 3 or 12 lose.
  4. If the result of the roll is a number that is not 7 or 11, that number now becomes the point and each pass line bet or don’t pass line bet afterwards is in relation to this point.
  5. After the point is set the puck or disk is flipped to the side with the word “ON” and is moved to the point number on the table.
  6. Players at the table then make another round of bets. You may choose to back your original bet or a new one altogether. In this scenario if a 7 or a 11 is rolled all who bet pass line, lose.
  7. If the point is rolled again all pass line bets win and a new round of betting begins. The dealer signals the beginning of the new round by moving the puck from the point number back to its “OFF” original position

How to Bet on Craps for Beginners

Craps has a variety of bets. Each has its own risk and potential payout. Some bets are better suited to newer players, whereas others are more suited to experienced gamblers. The simplest bet for beginners before the come out roll is the pass line bet. However, there are way more craps bets to place once you know how to play. The better you get at craps, then you can start to utilise the various tips and strategies to win big in craps.

  • After the pass line bet, if your bet double the odds by betting on the same bet, you get six times your bet back if you win.
  • Depending on which point is set, it is wise to bet on the point set. If it is a 4, 5, 9- and 10-point set there are only two possible combinations of the dice that can yield those two numbers.
  • If the point is 6 or 8 there are three possible combinations of the dice which can yield that point. Therefore, statistically there are better chances of a 6 or 8 to be repeated than a 4; 5; 9 and 10.
