New Lottery Commission to Benefit Agents in AU

New Lottery Commission AU

The Andrews Labour Government in Victoria, south-eastern Australia, has launched a new lottery commission that will transform the sale of lottery tickets in the region. This new method benefits hundreds of news and lottery agents in Victoria, many of whom are small businesses.

The Australian Gaming Council announced this news on its official website early last week. The Premier of Victoria also shared it on their official page around the same time. The government introduced the lottery commission to reward lottery distributors, acknowledging their role in facilitating public lotteries.

What the Change Entails

Victorian lottery agents will now earn commissions from all digital tickets they sell collectively, a change from previous practices. To support these commissions, the price of individual lottery tickets will increase by 1%. Additionally, the cost of a 12-game entry for players will rise by five cents. Businesses will also see an increase in the maximum commission rate for all lotteries, excluding draw lotteries and instant scratchcards.

Lottery Commission Receives Widespread Support

Marlene Kairouz, the minister for gaming and liquor regulation, supports the new lottery commission. She believes this initiative helps hundreds of businesses by returning hard-earned money to them for other uses.

Gary Carter, general manager of the Australian Lottery and Newsagents Association, welcomed the change and called it “important and helpful”. He expressed gratitude for the Andrews Labour Government’s support during the lottery transition. Carter noted that the new commissions will improve remuneration opportunities for all parties involved, benefiting not just Victoria but the entire country.
